The Healthy, Empowered and Active Living (HEAL) Fund, made possible by the Low Tuck Kwong Foundation, has allowed our healthcare partners at SingHealth to roll out innovative and sustainable care models.
A media briefing was held yesterday where Associate Professor Lian Leng Low (Chairman, Division of Population Health and Integrated Care, Singapore General Hospital, and Director, Southeast, SingHealth Office of Regional Health) shared more about the HEAL Fund and the initiatives it has supported.
Leveraging the fund, dietitian Er Peng Ling from Singapore General Hospital conducted in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with seniors at Goodlife Makan in Marine Terrace and Goodlife Studio (Bukit Purmei) to develop tailored nutrition awareness programmes.
Seniors will learn about nutrition through interactive hands-on sessions and easy to understand nutrition snippets placed around their dining area at both Centres, to empower them to manage their health and medical conditions through making the right food choices.
During the media briefing, Boon Cheng Ong, Assistant Manager at Montfort Care, shared more about Goodlife by Montfort Care, and its programmes to improve the overall well-being of seniors across Singapore. She commented that this collaboration will ensure that seniors will be eating not only tasty, but also nutritious meals, by reviewing and improving recipes that seniors enjoy at the community kitchen.
Our volunteer at Goodlife Makan, Auntie Yan Qing, also shared her thoughts on the importance of preparing and eating healthy meals for the seniors at Goodlife Makan.
The research and findings from the programme will be translated into an official guideline or playbook on educating seniors about healthy diets and nutrition, which will be rolled out to all Active Ageing Centres by 2027.
