Montfort Care, a key contributor in Singapore’s social services
sector, today commemorated Marine Parade’s 50th anniversary with community residents and beneficiaries at the Beyond 50: Love, Inspire, Transform community carnival. The event celebrated the estate’s rich heritage and highlighted the collective impact of Montfort Care and its community partners in fostering love, inspiration, and transformation within the community.
Dr. Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, also attended the event and joined in the festivities, kicking off the night with the Light Up Ceremony
along with leaders of Montfort Care including Founder of Montfort Care, Mr. Samuel Ng, BBM, and Acting CEO and Chief Purpose Officer of Montfort Care, Mdm Han Yah Yee. As a Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC and resident of Marine Parade himself, Dr. Tan has a deep connection with the community and has spearheaded various initiatives aimed at enhancing wellbeing and fostering a strong sense of togetherness among residents.
The carnival was a vibrant celebration of unity and community spirit. Other notable attendees included Ms. Teoh Zsin Woon, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth, along with our partners from SingHealth Group including Mr. James Toi, Chief Operating Officer, and Associate Professor Low Lian Leng, Chairman of the Division of Population Health & Integrated Care at SingHealth.
Montfort Care, known for its community-centred approach, focuses on supporting vulnerable groups such as seniors living alone and low-income families. As part of this commitment, Montfort Care sponsored beneficiaries from Montfort Care Family Service (Marine Parade), Goodlife Makan (community kitchen), and Goodlife Studio (Active Ageing Centres) to attend the event. Their presence underscored the organisation’s dedication to ensuring that these individuals feel
supported and valued within the community.
Acting CEO and Chief Purpose Officer of Montfort Care, Mdm Han Yah Yee, said “We are deeply grateful to have grown and journeyed with the Marine Parade community over the last two decades. As we celebrate this significant milestone, we reflect on the themes of love, inspiration, and transformation that have shaped both the residents and Montfort Care’s impact within the community. We are excited to continue serving and inspiring togetherness, while making a lasting difference in the lives of those we support.” The event also aimed to encourage attendees to carry forward the message of “love, inspire, transform” by continuing to support one another as a community, whether through small acts of kindness, inspiring someone with their words, or making positive changes; each individual can make a difference in the community.
Beyond 50: Love, Inspire, Transform offered a nostalgic journey through time, with activities themed around different eras – “Heritage”, “Retro”, and “Modern”. A trishaw and traditional games like five stones brought back the spirit of the past, while LED balls, a heart-shaped background, and light installations added a modern touch to the vibrant setting. The festivities included intergenerational activities like making friendship bands, where seniors and youth worked together or made them for each other, as well as portrait drawing stations. Performances enlivened the event, and attendees also shared their favourite memories and places in Marine Parade, whether it was a quiet park, the bustling hawker centre, or the beautiful beaches and coastline.
The event brought together the entire Marine Parade community to honour the estate’s rich cultural heritage and strong sense of identity. Marine Parade holds special significance in Montfort Care’s history, as the estate was where the organisation began its journey with the establishment of Montfort Care Family Service (Marine Parade), marking the start of its mission to serve communities across Singapore.
