When Wei Wei first joined Montfort Care during the pandemic as a part-time trainer, she never imagined how deeply she would come to value the people, purpose and partnership behind her role. Fast forward four years, she’s now a Senior Counsellor with the Families for Life @ Community team, delivering a range of impactful parenting programmes including Triple P and Signposts to families across Singapore.
For someone with 18 years of counselling experience, and over a decade dedicated to parenting work after becoming a mum herself, joining Montfort Care wasn’t just a job switch. It was a natural extension of her personal journey. “I was freelancing and a friend mentioned Montfort Care was looking for trainers. I took a chance during COVID, and it just clicked,” Wei Wei recalls.
Wei Wei is one of only two trainers at Families for Life @ Community who lead seminars, group workshops and one-on-one sessions for parents of children aged 0 to 16. Her team’s work supports families from all walks of life, from school-based parenting workshops to early intervention programmes for young children, and even online marriage enrichment sessions. In recent years, they’ve extended support to grandparents and explored the growing importance of strengthening marital relationships through preventive education.
“It’s not just about parenting. It’s about family,” Wei Wei says. One story stands out in her memory: a father-son conflict that spiralled after the boy dropped out of school. “The father tore up the boy’s books in frustration. The next day, the boy tried to make amends but got scolded by his teachers. That pain stayed with him,” she shares. “That’s when I truly felt how vital our work is—helping families reconnect before things spiral.”

Despite her deep experience, Wei Wei says she’s still growing, both professionally and personally. Being accredited to facilitate Signposts recently marked a proud milestone. But it’s the team culture that truly fuels her. “We’re a team of introverts, but we respect each other’s space and strengths. That’s what makes our work meaningful. I’ve become more people-oriented through this role, more attuned to collaboration.”
Her reflection is honest: “I wasn’t sure if this second career in social service was the right one. But through this journey, I found clarity. I realised this is where I’m meant to be.”
To those considering a role in social service, she has
this advice: “Train as a counsellor if you’re serious. Know your ‘why’. Invest time in understanding your interests and strengths, so when you step in, you’re ready to give your best.”
